Hi Everyone,
AJ has returned from SXSW relatively sober and full of stories. Mostly he just talked about the amazing BBQ food he ate, stopping only to mention the amazing beer he drank. He also got to see a whole bunch of the amazing bands that we're working with, most of the time sacrificing sleep for the love of amazing live music. Thank you to all that pointed him to the airport at the end of the week. Only time will tell if there will be any lasting damage.
Did you all bring in The Low Anthem "Charlie Darwin" 7" for today? If not, don't forget to grab a couple of copies. Also don't forget that each LP of "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin" is available, hand-screened, and super awesome looking.
In other news (cue the horns) RECORD STORE DAY is upon us! How will you be spending your April 17th? Below is a list and a couple of features about all the cool (and possibly limited edition) stuff you can get for your customers. For instance: Nada Surf is releasing a very limited run of their covers record 'if i had a hi-fi' (ADA) a whole 4 weeks early! Details below.
Also, our good friends at Dangerbird Records are releasing Codeine Velvet Club's debut self-titled record on 04.06 (available through ADA). Codeine Velvet Club is Jon Lawler of The Fratellis and fellow Glasgow (Glasgow-ian?) singer songwriter Lou Hickey. Full write-up below.
Cheers

This beautiful self-titled debut is out on Dangerbird Records on 04.06. Codeine Velvet Club is Jon Lawler of The Fratellis and singer songwriter Lou Hickey. If you expect more of what The Fratellis offered, you are in for a surprise.
Codeine Velvet Club "marks a definite departure from The Fratellis' sound...Hickey's oft-soft voice drips with a noir-ish menace alongside Lawler's grizzly barks, a delicious contrast in 'Vanity Kills' and 'Time' . Boosted by jazz-club horns and a boozy, burlesque chorus, it captures the mood of this record perfectly: gritty Brit music tainted by soul-sucking Hollywood" (NME).
I've been driving around to this record and have been asked on more than one occasion who I'm listening to and where to get it. File this under 'Must Check Out'.
