And we're back,

April has been a pretty awesome month with my favorite prank holiday leading it off, closely followed by an amazing Record Store Day, then closed with the longest case of second-day-stupids I've ever had the pleasure of coming out of. Seriously, it's 9 DAYS LATER and I can finally complete a cohesive thought.

With Record Store Day in our wake we can now look back and admire the overwhelmingly positive response. Every store we have the pleasure chatting with has something amazing to say about the day, most saying this was not only their best RSD, but their best day EVER!

So, in spirits of keeping the ball rolling we present to you two pretty awesome records. For starters we have the new Cast Spells LP (Dovecote, RedEye) which is the vinyl version of their 2009 EP "Bright Works and Baton". Check out the details below. Second, new Minus the Bear (Dangerbird, ADA) is coming out. I've personally been addicted to this record the past week and anxiously awaiting its release so I can talk to everyone else about it. Not what I expected from Minus the Bear, but awesome nonetheless. It's like they made this record to dare me not to like it, double-dog style (the most vicious and notorious of all dares [citation needed]), and I lost that dare horribly.

Here we go.

MINUS THE BEAR "OMNI" [5/4]

Line
PLANTS Omni, Minus the Bear's fourth full length and first on Dangerbird Records [ADA], comes out on May 4th.
After extensive touring in support of their last album, Planet of Ice, Minus the Bear wanted to incorporate that live power and intensity on Omni. Thanks to the talent of producer Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket/White Stripes), Minus the Bear has brought that live energy without losing their...
"quirky time signatures, hyperactive riffs, and prodigious hooks. There’s a lot more groove, a lot more soul, a lot more feeling that comes across" (dangerbirdrecords.com)

This record is a truly honest evolution of their sound and vision. It's a little rock, a little pop/electro, and a little funk with those ever-so-familiar hooks and melodies. You have to check this out.

Box CastSpells

Next on the dish is the release of "Bright Works and Baton" on Vinyl from Cast Spells (Dovecote, RedEye). Originally released in 2009 on CD, This EP is incredibly limited first-time-on-vinyl-ever release and is delightfully sonically pleasing. Cast Spells is Dave Davison from Maps and Atlases.
We think it's important to note that this isn't some weird vanity solo project of Dave's. He ACTUALLY tours on this record when he's not out with Maps. It's pretty safe to say if you're a Maps and Atlases fan you'll love this record.
Speaking of Maps, you can catch them at any of the tour dates below. Don't worry, one of Dave Davison's superpowers is he never rests. You'll be able to catch a Cast Spells show soon enough. Don't worry, we'll let you know.
Oh, one more thing. Check out Cast Spells on Daytrotter HERE. Pretty awesome.
