Hi everyone,

Hope you're all enjoying the summer because we sure can't wait to see it. It's been raining and in the 50's since the beginning of June. My 9 year old cousin told me yesterday that all the thunder is from Care Bears bowling in the clouds. Instead of explaining to him all the things wrong with that statement I immediately drew a mental image of what all the rain might be from. I'd equate it to this...

CareBear

Drunken Care Bear wearing an F.U. New Hampshire shirt who can't find the bathroom

This thought was immediately followed by 'whoa, this is what Cody's thoughts must look like'. which is horrifying...

All that aside, we have a bunch of records we just sent out we think you should check out. They're all titles brought to you by our good friends at Yep Roc Records. Check it out below for details on the new Minus 5, Peggy Sue, and Young Fresh Fellows.

THE MINUS 5 - "Killingworth" [7/7/09]

The Minus 5

This is the new Minus 5 album, Killingsworth from Yep Roc Records.
Killingsworth has the regular Minus 5 faces on it (hello Peter Buck) as well as a bunch of guests. Like pretty much all the Decemberists; Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, John Moen, Nate Query, and Jenny Conlee. Portland provided a whole bunch of other help too; there's vocal help from the Shee Bee Gees and help from various M.Ward collaborators too.

"The hallmark of the Minus 5 has always been witty lyrics which feature a healthy sense of humor. A quick glance at titles like "Tonight You're Buying Me a Drink, Bub" and

"Scott Walker's Fault" should be enough to tell you that fact hasn't changed. Killingsworth is catchy, amusing alt. country" (snobsmusic.net).

So throw it in the ol' stereo and enjoy what Minus 5 has to offer.

PEGGY SUE - "The Lover Gone EP" [7/7/09]

line Peggy Sue

This is Peggy Sue from the UK with their debut EP. It's brought to you via our friends at Yep Roc. We saw them at SXSW this year and they are phenomenal. Really fun and really great songs. This EP will be out on July 7 as with all the records in this newsletter, and you get all the records from RedEye. The full length will be out in the fall. Please give it a listen. You will fall in love with this band.

"Katy Klaw, Rosa Rex and drummer Olly Olly Olly have been tagged with indie nomenclature from post-folk to anti-soul, but elementally the trio is a shambolic concoction of acoustic instruments and wry lyricism sung atop chugging gypsy rhythms. Handmade instruments and unique vocal

interplay add to a kitchen sink approach to music-making, resulting in a playfully dark aesthetic for the duo Kate Nash cites as her favorite band." (yeproc.com)

YOUNG FRESH FELLOWS - "I Think This Is" [7/7/09]

line YFF

Here's another release with the handiwork of Scott McCaughey all over it. Its been quite some time since the last Young Fresh Fellows album (2001 to be exact, if you need to know) as McCaughey has focused on Minus 5 for the past few years.

"Seattle's Young Fresh Fellows combine punk-derived recklessness and a bubbly garage-pop sensibility with an absurdist lyrical wit and a bittersweet vulnerable streak that has grown increasingly resonant as the band confronts the inconvenient realities of adult life" (trouserpress.com).

"Young Fresh Fellows can still rock the hell out of three and a half minutes. 'I Think This Is' was

produced by friend and collaborator Robyn Hitchcock and shares his singular sense of post-modern whimsy and musical exploration. Except, you know, louder and with more beer" (yeproc.com).

So pop open a beer and have a Scott McCaughey kind of day.
