Hello, This again? Really? With the rain and the clouds. That's it. I'm done with you, New England. There is a redeemable factor to this mess you call summer weather. Tourists that typically invade our quaint, historic seaside town are held at bay in their hotel rooms. Sure I get that they're great for our economy and all, but if I get cut off by another out of state plate or have a group of window shoppers take up the whole sidewalk in front of my coffee shop I'm going to lose it... On that note I do have three releases that have helped me control my road rage these past few weeks. For starters, Bad Veins brings us an awesome record that hasn't left my CD player. Think The Strokes meets The Killers and had a love child that looks nothing like The Killers, but is raised as their own. Also, Starlight Mints released Change Remains on Barsuk. Lastly, that handsome devil Trevor Giuliani released Subcontrario(In Stereo) on Dovecote Records. In stereo because mono just won't do. Check it out. |

Bad Veins: "s/t" [OUT NOW!] |

![]() |
This is the debut album from Ohio two-some Bad Veins. The self-titled album will be available from Dangerbird Records (via ADA). Formed back in late 2006, Bad Veins were touted by CMJ as a breakout act just a year after they started playing live. "The immediate response to Bad Veins may be directly linked to their live shows, specifically their ability to accurately replicate their luscious songs with some help from a reel-to-reel player, allowing the dynamic duo to create their huge orchestrations the way they were intended" (dangerbirdrecords.com). The album is packed with orchestration, percussion, and analog synth, but not to the point where it draws from their raw power as a duo. |

They took their time recording their debut and "the finished album is as cerebral as it is visceral, and showcases what Bad Veins are capable of" (dangerbirdrecords.com). Check out Bad Veins debut and see for yourself what they're capable of. |

Starlight Mints: "Change Remains" [OUT NOW!] |

This week, Barsuk Records (via RedEye) brought you the newest Starlight Mints album, Change Remains. Three years after their last album, Starlight Mints bring you more of the upbeat indie pop you've come to expect from them. "What sets Change Remains apart from the group's earlier work are the heavy inclusion of synthesizers and electronic beats that are sprinkled throughout the record...but the Starlight Mints strengths still are the catchy and poppy harmonies they sing with the most upbeat attitudes. The tracks [on Change Remains] have the same indie and memorable swagger that longtime followers will instantly hit repeat on" (thefirenote.blogspot.com). |

Banish those gray sky blues with Starlight Mints' upbeat tunes and catch them this summer as they tour in support of Change Remains. |

Trevor Giuliani: "Subcontrario(In Stereo)" [OUT NOW!] |

We seem to like giving you three albums with the same release date lately and this round is no different. We've got another debut album for you. Trevor Giuliani's debut album, Subcontrario (In Stereo) is out on Dovecote Records (via Fontana). After briefly studying at NYU, Trevor Giuliani spent a few years kicking around NYC before recently moving to Portland, OR. Subcontrario (In Stereo) is filled with 10 tracks with: "arrangement[s]...finely detailed and accompanied by both acoustic and electronic instruments. You’ll find off-kilter, syncopated and deliberately out-of-time plucks met by hits that could seem scattered and unfocused if heard on their own. Woven together, however, they paint a picture to be appreciated for its precision" (bandweblogs.com). |
