We are going to need to ask for your forgiveness in advance for this email blast. And perhaps a few to follow as well as we mourn Chris' departure from the office here. There are many things that will be missed about him, and right now I'd say his ability to effortlessly put together these email blasts would be at the top of the list. So please, bare with us for the time being until we can teach ourselves to be both witty and tech savvy in order to pick up the slack. Good thing he left behind a case of early-released Pumpkinhead beer in the fridge. That should help soften the blow a bit.

Speaking of tech savvy, everyone please take a minute to add us on both Facebook and Twitter! (yes, those are both hotlinks - if hotlink is still a word). We've finally ushered ourselves into the modern age circa 2006 and got both of those situations under control. We'll be using these pages to offer cool stuff from time to time, and generally acting like morons the rest of the time.

We got a lot going on this week and next here at Flea central. Today marks the release of one of our favorite bands, Darker My Love. Alive As You Are hits your shelves, and if you haven't been blasting it overhead for the past two weeks, now's a good time to start! While you're at it, feel free to get a head start on Ra Ra Riot and Fitz & the Tantrums as well, for both of their new records come out next week. Summer may be almost over, but things are just starting to heat up in here!

Darker My Love "Alive As You Are" [OUT TODAY!]

Line
MTB Next up is the brand new Darker My Love record Alive As You Are - available today from Dangerbird (ADA). It’s a bit of a shift for them musically, and the stoner jams are long gone, but we think you’ll like the jangly direction they’ve decided to go in. And we’re not alone in this thought; “Alive As You Are is a beautifully-realised evocation of the psychedelic, country-tinged fringes of ‘60s pop, with particular reference to The Byrds (“The Notorious Byrd Brothers” especially) and The Beatles…Alive As You Are manages to be at once languid and punchy, a swift and bracing collection of insidious melodies that are blessed with an uncanny familiarity.” –UNCUT

Box CastSpells

And here we have the new Ra Ra Riot. The Orchard is their follow up to the critically acclaimed The Rhumb Line, brought to you by your good friends at Barsuk (Redeye). You are going to love this record. And if you find yourself craving a nice juicy peach at some point while listening to it, don’t find it odd, its probably because they wrote and recorded this record in a peach orchard in upstate New York – hence the name The Orchard. This record shows a large jump in maturity of songwriting since 2008’s The Rhumb Line, while still maintaining everything about the first record that you fell in love with. On this record you’ll find more female vocals and songs with more depth. Dive right in, you won’t regret it.
