Hello again,

So that was it, huh? Summer draws to a close. Most of you are still experiencing the nice warm weather, outdoor swimming, summer ale brew, and air conditioning. Here at Flea we've been metaphorically bitch-slapped by mother nature. It's cold, it's cloudy, it's sweater weather. On the plus side we have Shipyard Pumpkinhead beer. If you think your microbrewery makes a great fall beer you haven't experienced the joys and spices of Pumpkinhead. Nothing makes the cold more tolerable than tourists retreating, college kids going back to school, and our local pub actually having locals in it enjoying a beer that tastes like success.

This week we have a few records that we've sent your way including Dappled Cities, Gordon Gano and The Ryans, and Mystery of Two. Check them out below along with updated tour dates from them and other Flea bands. As always, if there's a show in your area and you want to go LET US KNOW and we'll hook it up. The Fall is the best season for shows and we wouldn't want you to miss anything!

Check it.

DAPPLED CITIES: "Zounds" [9/15]

Dappled Cities

Here's the new Dappled Cities record, Zounds, on Dangerbird Records (ADA). Zounds is the Aussie band's 3rd release (2nd on Dangerbird) and will be released stateside on September 15th.
"The Dappled Cities sound has been built around short and sweet melodic pop – from the post-rock twee of Peach to the rousing sing-along of Holy Chord. Zounds takes a more organic approach; allowing songs to ebb and flow rather than piling up towards a larger goal...Zounds is the perfect example of a band taking what’s great about their sound and value-adding until it offers a whole new experience. After their excellent work on Granddance, Dappled Cities have given us something even greater with Zounds" (fasterlouder.com.au).

GORDON GANO and The Ryans: "Under the Sun" [9/15]

line line
Gordon Gano

Gordon Gano first entered your listening world with the Violent Femmes and now he's back with the album Under the Sun. Teaming up with brothers Billy and Brendan Ryan, Under the Sun comes out on September 15th on Yep Roc Records (RedEye). Having met when all three moved to the same NYC neighborhood in 2001, the Ryan brothers soon sent along instrumentals for Gano to add lyrics to.
"Eventually, they'd team up to create close to 40 songs, with 12 making the final cut for the Under the Sun album...the record is a parade of styles, with the off-kilter Yiddish-gospel groove of "Oholah Oholibah" careening against the multi-mood, gradually building "Still Suddenly Here," while

"Hired Gun" could pass for alt country in the GanoRyan world and "Wave and Water" is all Heads-y world-jangle...and holding it all together are Gano's signature voice and lyrical gifts"(yeproc.com).
So check out what Gordon Gano has been up to these days with the help of the Ryans.

MYSTERY OF TWO "s/t" [9/15]

line Mystery of 2 Last up for you today is a release from the Cleveland area band Mystery of Two. The self-titled release comes out on Exit Stencil Records on September 15th (Carrot Top).
"One of the best-kept secrets in the Cleveland band-scene is Mystery of Two, a band with a not-quite new wave or punk sound but a great experimental pop twist to their music" (localvertical.blogspot.com).
"Indebted to Cleveland's punk/post-punk legacy, but not re-enacting it, Cleveland's Mystery of Two pull off this delicate task without falling into the same trap as many a modern band -- namely, sounding like their record collections...For Mystery of Two, Pere Ubu, is an obvious touchstone, on "Repeat It," if only for Ryan Weitzel's foreboding

and dramatic vocal delivery. His guitar work, on the other hand, alternates between sleek, agile tones, and blasts of fury, amped up post-rock and guitar pedal overload." (irockcleveland.blogspot.com). Check out for yourself the newest offerings from Cleveland.
