Before we get started, a very important message from our friends at Barsuk Records regarding the Cymbals Eat Guitars record that was supposed to come out this week:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear retail partners-

Due to artwork problems beyond Barsuk's control, the Cymbals Eat Guitars CD and LP "Lenses Alien" has been postponed until September 27.  We are working furiously to get the record to you as quickly as we can, and if the CDs are available before the vinyl then we'll ship whatever we've got as soon as we have it.

This situation is unprecedented in our almost 15-year history, but it's obviously not ideal and we really appreciate your patience with this schedule change. It's a GREAT album, and we hope your customers will agree it's worth the wait!

Thank you for all that you do,

Your friends at Barsuk Records

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, now its our turn:

Hey Everyone!

First off, we need to send a huge and heartfelt GOOD LUCK to Melissa, our pop punk loving intern-extraordinaire turned employee. She's off to Chicago for college this week. Gonna miss you Melissa!

You know what's better than Hurricane Irene? Everything else. We, luckily, were spared this time around, but unfortunately our friends to the south and the west were not as lucky. Our thoughts go out to them. In our area it only threatened to ruin our amazing festival on Saturday (but didn't cause we rule and totally overcame it). Everything in town closed for the day, and we never even lost power for more than a second. Again, I'm glad we weren't effected like other areas, but seriously, come correct or leave us alone altogether. Though it was pretty cool going down to the beach on Sunday and getting a better idea of what the movie The Perfect Storm must have been really like (picture below).

Big newsletter this week with so much going on! We have amazing records for you from We Are Augustines (who actually played in town here on Friday for the Daytrotter Barnstormer tour - take that Irene - and were amazing), Yellow Ostrich (who we saw in New York on Wednesday, and were also amazing - not relevant, but take that anyways Irene), The Great Book Of John and Marc Maron (Flea's first comedy record! Woo!). You have promos for all of these, and they are all out now. What a way to cap off summer!

Everyone is on tour! Go see shows! Let us know what we can put you on the list for!

We Are Augustines "Rise Ye Sunken Ships" [OUT NOW!]

Line
Rise Ye Sunken Ships

Here we have one of our favorite records of 2011. This is the debut full-length from We Are Augustines. Rise Ye Sunken Ships became available on August 23 from Oxcart/Turnout (WEA). Many of you may know them from their previous endeavor :PELA. This record is something really special, with content heavier than any record you’ve heard in a long time. Billy McCarthy wrote this record over the course of two years, about his brother, as the events in his life unfolded. His brother struggled with schizophrenia for years, and eventually developed a drug problem, which led him to prison, where he passed away. This record is how Billy dealt with all of this. Every emotion that he felt during all of this is deep within these recordings. This is the real deal.

Yellow Ostrich "The Mistress" [OUT NOW!]

Line
The Mistress

And now for another fine release from our favorite friends at Barsuk (Redeye) - Yellow Ostrich. This summer they became a brand new addition to the Barsuk family. The Mistress came out on August 16th. Though tracks such as "mary" may trick you otherwise, Yellow Ostrich is actually comprised of one Alex Schaaf and all six harmonizing iterations of his gentle, calming voice.  Throughout the album, you’ll find his voice “…gets looped and layered, stretched, manipulated; it's stacked up several high and, most often, it's used as an instrument, fleshing out the empty spaces in his bare, searching songs. These songs exist within that push-and-pull, the allure of blind fantasy chased by the bitter sting of reality.” (www.barsuk.com). Don’t believe us? Give it a listen and be blown away. And to top it off, the band is even better live.

The Great Book Of John s/t [OUT NOW!]

Line
The Great Book Of John

Up next is a record from a band that we are really excited about - The Great Book Of John, from a new label called Communicating Vessels (distributed by Burnside). Many of you are already very familiar with this band. Maybe they’ve already played in your store at some point. Maybe a friend turned you on to them. Maybe you heard them on a blog or on a mixtape, or were already a fan of Taylor Shaw's previous band, Wild Sweet Orange. All of these things seem to be happening at a rapid rate. Also, this is a band that loves record stores, and you will all love them. It’s a beautiful sounding record, full of lush sounds from all ends of the spectrum. The songs are crafted carefully, and the combination of everything will keep you coming back for more listens. And they are opening up for Bright Eyes in September, so that doesn't hurt.

Marc Maron "This Has To Be Funny" [OUT NOW!]

Line
This Has To Be Funny

Up next we have a bit of a change of my pace with the “devastatingly funny”, as LA Weekly calls him – Marc Maron. This is the first comedy record for Flea Marketing, and we’re quite excited about it! We love Marc Maron, especially his WTF Podcast. As a follow up to his three previous releases, This Has to Be Funny, came out August 9th from Comedy Central Records (ADA). As if 4 albums and numerous appearances on all your favorite late night talk shows aren’t enough, Marc is also quite the author. The man does it all! But right now we are most obsessed with this standup record. We promise that its hysterical. He doesn’t so much tell jokes as he does explain to the world how his messed up brain works. And its more entertaining than any jokes we’ve heard in a long time. And remember ladies “make your safe-word ‘I want to get married’ and you won’t have any problems.”
